Absinthe – The Phoenix Raising From The Ashes

In the early 1990's, someone discovered that absinthe had never been banned in Britain and recognized that this esoteric drink could once again be commercially produced. A Czech distiller then began producing absinthe for the UK market. Once this threshold was crossed, distillers started popping up all over Europe.  The EU, once presented with the facts of absinthe, the lifted the ban on absinthe but pinned the thujone content at 10 mg. The absinthe market was quickly flooded with companies promoting thujone and billing absinthe as drug. Nothing could have been further from Doctor Odinaire's recipe and what absinthe really is. The product these companies produce has done nothing but harm the current day acceptance of absinthe. Much like the sneaky French absinthe producers in 1900's who were adding dangerous chemicals to their product, these mostly German and Czech absinthe distillers have put short term gains ahead promoting real absinthe.

It's been almost 15 years since the modern revival of absinthe began and the true absinthe market is rapidly progressing. The pack has separated and real absinthe is quickly distancing itself from the thujone hype crowd.  The quality of real absinthe gets better with each passing year and more and more people are gravitating towards real absinthe distillers and a product that is more in-line with what was produced before the ban.

Absinthe was introduced to the US market in 2007 with the release of the Kubler and Lucid brands.  Absinthe is now produced in the US by a number of micro-distillers.

The future for real absinthe is bright.  The product is too good to stay hidden for long and we expect absinthe to blossom on the world market over the next 10 years.
